Students increase their litter intelligence

On a gorgeous day in September a group of high school students picked up and found out more about the litter that washes ashore, at the Greenpoint Domain in Bluff.

The community project was initiated by Southland Boys’ High students, as part of the Career Navigator programme delivered by the Graeme Dingle Foundation Southern. They were also joined by a number of Sanford employees. Environment Southland environmental education facilitator Josh Sullivan said it was a great opportunity for students to give back to the community, while also learning about citizen science and the role they can play. “The students were impressive, they were totally engaged throughout the day and really keen to understand the waste they were collecting.”
