Public Notice of a Proposal for a Southland Regional Pest Management Plan

The Southland Regional Council (Environment Southland) gives public notice of the preparation of a Proposal for a Southland Regional Pest Management Plan (Proposal).

Environment Southland is undertaking a review of the Southland Regional Pest Management Strategy in accordance with the Biosecurity Act 1993 and is undertaking consultation on the Proposal.

The Proposal builds on the Southland Regional Pest Management Strategy and outlines the framework for the efficient and effective management or eradication of specified harmful species in the Southland region.

Inspection and availability of the Proposal

A copy of the Proposal is available for public inspection at:

• the offices of Environment Southland, corner North Road and Price Street, Waikiwi, Invercargill
• the Environment Southland website: www.es.govt.nz/pestplan
• public libraries within the region - Invercargill, Bluff, Gore, Mataura, Lumsden, Otautau, Nightcaps, Riverton, Stewart Island, Te Anau, Waiau, Winton and Wyndham;
• the offices of the Invercargill City Council, 101 Esk Street, Invercargill;
• the offices of the Southland District Council, 15 Forth Street, Invercargill;
• the offices of the Gore District Council, 29 Civic Avenue, Gore.

The Proposal may be downloaded free of charge from the Environment Southland website. Alternatively, paper copies of the Proposal are available from Environment Southland's Customer Services team, for which a charge may be made.

Submissions/Feedback

Submissions are invited on the Proposal.Any person may make a submission on the Proposal. Submissions may be made directly from the portal on the Environment Southland website: www.es.govt.nz/pestplan

The closing date for submissions is 5.00 pm, Monday, 23 October 2018.

Process for submissions on the Proposal

A hearing panel will hear the submissions received on the Proposal. Submitters giving notice of their wish to be heard will be advised of the hearing. Following the hearing, Environment Southland will release a written report which will set out its decisions and the reasons for accepting or rejecting the submissions on the Proposal.
