Public notice is hereby given pursuant to S.95A of the Resource Management Act 1991 that the following application for resource consent has been received by Environment Southland.
The application [reference APP-20202357] is for the following resource consents to authorise proposed activities at 18-30 McQueen Avenue, Mataura and 50 Selbourne Street, Mataura:
Discharge Permit to discharge contaminants and odour to air from meat processing and hide salting operations.
The main contaminant emissions are combustion contaminants, such as fine particulate, SO2 and NO2, as a result of operating boilers at the plant. The applicant proposes to upgrade the 9.4MW coal-fired boiler within three years, either installing a bag-house filter or replacing the boiler with a new biomass-fired boiler.
Odour emissions are largely associated with waste systems at the meat processing plant, such as decanting of wastewater treatment solids, storage and disturbance of compostable solids, and storage and load-out of renderable solids for processing off-site. A series of modifications are proposed as mitigation.
Purpose: Operation of a meat processing plant
