Long-term Plan 2024-34 submission period extended
Environment Southland is extending the Long-term Plan 2024-34 submission period for one week in response to community feedback.
Submissions were due to close on 6 May, but will now close at 5pm on Monday, 13 May.
Environment Southland chairman Nicol Horrell said there had been significant interest in the Long-term Plan proposals and the Council wanted to ensure everyone had enough time to be able to send their feedback in.
“We want everyone to have their say so we’ve decided to extend the submissions by a week,” he said.
The Long-term Plan hearings are currently scheduled to commence on 20 May with the statutory timeframe for adopting the plan being the end of June.
The Council’s key proposal is for ongoing and greater investment in flood protection for Southland to improve community resilience through an increase in operating expenditure of $2.3m per annum to be funded by a new Flood Protection Infrastructure Rate.
The new rate would be based on capital value for all ratepayers and would replace 140 targeted rates to pay for improved flood mitigation.
