Further update: Southern Discoveries
Environment Southland has been advised there has been no further damage to the building which sank in Milford Sound last week despite the weekend’s rough weather.
Staff from both compliance and maritime teams visited the site at Milford Sound on Friday (6 September) to inspect the damage and meet with Southern Discoveries on its recovery plan.
Oil spill sorbent booms remain in place as a preventative measure.
Regional harbourmaster and maritime manager Lyndon Cleaver said “We will continue to maintain regular contact with Southern Discoveries on their recovery arrangements in order to ensure the risks to the environment are being appropriately mitigated and managed.”
