Catchment improvement funding
When will I know if my application has been successful?
Applications are checked on an individual basis due to tight timeframes in the 2024-2025 year. After submitting your application, you will be informed once a decision is made, this continues until the deadline for final submissions in mid-February, or the funding runs out.
What kind of support will Environment Southland provide throughout the project?
Our land sustainability officers will be with you the entire way through the process – from before you apply all the way through to completion. They will be checking in monthly to see what progress you are making. The land sustainability officers will also be your point of contact when it comes to ordering any plants for planting projects.
Who pays for the project costs?
All costs need to be paid by the applicant. Once work is completed, and receipts/invoices submitted a reimbursement is issued to the applicant by 30 June.
How do I figure out the budget?
Your land sustainability officer will be there through the application process to help you figure out your budget. This will include figuring out your 50% contribution which can be made up of cash and in-kind (such as labour, use of own machinery, or donated materials).
Below are some basic examples of what you could expect from projects:
Land Sustainability Management Fund:For a $10,000 (or more) constructed wetland project, you could receive up to $5000.
Southland Native Planting Fund: For a $6,000 (or more) wetland planting project, you can receive up to $3000.
Can I use the funding to do fencing?
You can use the funding to do fencing, for example fencing off retired land, constructed wetlands and critical source areas. However, you cannot use the fund for fencing areas of your property which are legally required to be fenced, for example fencing off waterways.
