Pioneer Energy Ltd has resource consents for the operation of the Monowai hydroelectric power scheme. The company has applied to change the conditions of resource consent AUTH-201088 to:
- Reduce the minimum flow that must be discharged into the lower Monowai River past the diversion weir from 500 litres per second to 300 litres per second. (Condition 3)
- Adjust the period for flushing flows. (Condition 6)
- Amend the monitoring and reporting requirements. (Condition 8)
- Remove references to willow eradication (as that has been completed). (Condition 8)
The proposed changes are to be considered as a discretionary activity under s127(3) of the Resource Management Act. Only the proposed changes, and the effects of the proposed changes, are subject to consideration.

Reason for public notification: Environment Southland has publicly notified the application because the proposed change to the minimum flow will have more than minor adverse effect on the habitat available for juvenile and adult brown trout.
